New Adventures!

We found out on June 12th that Eliana has Type I Diabetes (aka Juvenile Diabetes).  She is doing very well and has amazed us with her bravery and her resiliency.  We are still learning and figuring a lot of things out, and coming to terms with how this has changed all of our lives.  I will most definitely write more about it soon, and thanks to everyone for their prayers and concern for her.  Please know she is feeling well, and continues to be extremely active, energetic, entertaining, dramatic, and adorable!

In the meantime, we have had a lot of fun times as the school year has wound down and the weather has been beautiful.  We had a wonderful visit from Gran and a visit to the Elmwood Park Zoo.  (Our library recently got family museum passes and we've really been taking advantage of them!)  A visit from Gran is always a special treat and the girls enjoyed lots of restaurant food, lots of books, and lots of laughs.

Leah had an end of the year "moving up ceremony" at nursery school and performed on stage.  She felt shy and for most of the performance she turned her back to the crowd, (for those of you familiar - she reminded me of "Sugar Man.")

We went on a Mother's Day trip to the Morris Arboretum (again, thanks to the library pass).  Leah was afraid of the "Out on a Limb Tree Adventure" and Pete had to carry her through the whole exhibit.  Eliana loved everything about the arboretum, especially wading in streams and running free through the fields.

I chaperoned a cold, rainy and miserable kindergarten field trip to Solly Farm.  Leah was happy to be included in the crowd of kindergartners.  The kids were literally shivering as it was a cold day, and it drizzled through the entire outdoor field trip.  Then, they loaded us onto a hayride and the heavens really opened up.  We fled to the school buses to eat lunch and warm up.  No one was upset to see the much anticipated trip come to an end.

And we have enjoyed spring in many other ways . . . swinging, painting nails, planting trees, picnics . . .

Today marks the first day of summer.  It is not the summer that we were expecting to have as we looked ahead to summer!  But, we are still very excited and thankful for it.  There are many, many adventures ahead!
